    In the editorial page of the Sunday Times yesterday (Final Word – Over the Capital Hill), some somewhat curious comments were made about growing old “with dignity”.

  • Marketing to older people – who might they be?...

    The Guardian has reported on some remarkable people recently. Easrlier this month, a 91 year old ping pong champion called Les D’Arcy to be featured in a new film – called Ping Pong. Les and Terry Donlon, are the stars of a film about veteran athletes.

  • Older people and the happiness curve

    The happiness curve shows that as people become older, they become happier. What is happiness? Broad conclusions from academics and writers is that ‘happiness’ itself is not the best word to use, and probably ‘contentment’ or ‘well being’ or ‘life satisfaction’ will do better.

  • Targeting the 50+ market

    This market is a complex mix of contradictions, which makes targeting very difficult. It spans a huge age spectrum. It comprises the poorest and the richest in society. It consists of people who are ageing well and who are expected to have a long life, span versus those who are suffering long-term, often multiple chronic conditions.

  • UK Age Research Forum; research into wealth and age

    There was much to take in at the UK Age Research Forum, ‘Promoting the Collaboration of Age Research,’ which took place on 29th September. Of general interest were the papers given by the two keynote speakers. The first was Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Director of UCL International Institute for Society and Health. Sir Michael introduced us to ELSA – the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing. The findings and data from this fantastic longitudinal study are open to all, and reports can be found here.
